The information on this page is designed to assist you with uploading your personal web page onto the server. Let's make sure that everything is in place before you begin.
Enrollment Form
Having space ready for you to upload your page is much like calling ahead to a restaurant for dinner reservations. Before you can upload your page, you need to make sure that GDS has set aside space for you on the server. If you haven't completed the enrollment request form, you will need to do this before you can upload your files. The PWS Enrollment Form is located on the Enrollment Page. You will receive an e-mail from the GDS office when it is time for you to upload your files.
Software
You may upload your files using a file transfer program such as WS-FTP:
. You may download this file here.
File Names
Make sure that your first page ("home page") is called index.htm. If you have not named your first page index.htm, the server will not recognize it.Make sure that you have saved your file in a UNIX format. If you are using an HTML editor, such as HTMLed®, you will be given the option of saving it as a MS-DOS file or as a UNIX file. You will need to save it in a UNIX format for the server to recognize it. UNIX is simply the language that the server understands.
If you have used a publishing software package, most likely you will have automatically saved it in this manner.
Uploading your files
The process is actually very simple. All you are doing is taking the files from your computer and copying them to the GDS server. Here's how it works:Login to GDS
Open WS-FTPA screen will appear requiring certain information be given. You only need to fill in the following:
Host name: pws.gamewood.net
User name: This is your GDS account name
Password: Your actual password.
Click OK
This should take you to the next screen. The little box is divided into two sides:
- The left side represents the information in your computer.
- The right represents information on the GDS server.
All you want to do is send the information from your computer over to the GDS server.

In this graphic, the "local system" refers to your computer. The "remote system" is the GDS server. On the "local system" side, scroll down until you get to your directory which contains your file called index.htm.
This is the file you will be transferring to the "remote system."
Important:
- While we talk about sending a file over, in reality
only a copy of the file is transferred.- Your original index.htm file never actually leaves
your computer.- Only a copy of your index.htm file goes to the "remote system" (the GDS server).
Now let's concentrate on the righthand side of the page:
Before you actually upload, make sure that you are sending your files over to the correct location.
In the directory on the "remote system" side, you will see: gdsweb.
![]()
- Double click on gdsweb.
- You have just opened the gdsweb directory.
This is where GDS made "reservations" for you to store your files.
You Are Now Ready To Upload.
- Go back to the left side where your index.htm file is located.
- Highlight it.
- Click on the arrow that looks like this --> in between the two sides
- A copy of your index.htm file should transfer to the right side.
- Send over all of the files and/or images which are connected to your home page.
You've now uploaded your files!
Listing on the PWS Index Page
The GDS server updates itself during the night. Your name will not appear until the next morning. However, you can open the location to see how it will look:http://pws.gamewood.net/~(your user id here)/index.htm
